Odyssey’s Intermodal Metals transport business unit, CMI Logistics LLC, is the leading intermodal distribution company in the metals industry. Through our strategic network of transload facilities, we design customized metals distribution programs throughout North America.

We are hiring for Warehouse Associates at our Joliet, IL work site!  

Expected Hours of Work:

Hours of Operation are Monday through Friday from 4:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  The reporting manager
will schedule and approve hours as required by business necessity.  Employees must work a minimum of thirty (30) hours each week to maintain full-time status. 


Summary / Primary Role

The Warehouse Associate will safely perform tasks related to preparing material for shipment or unloading. This may include metal product such as:  Bars, Coils, Bar Rods, Sheets, Plates and other product form.


Essential Functions:

  • Ensure safe working conditions and adherence to OSHA regulations in performance of all job functions.

  • Perform duties as assigned by Supervisor and Terminal Manager.

  • Secure and unsecure all metal material that the warehouse receives and ships out.

  • Using proper procedures block and brace metal products.

  • Use oil drum sprayer to oil bar stock materials as needed.

  • Cut inbound seal on container doors, using bolt cutters.

  • Cut all metal banding from inbound metals materials on the Load Roll Pallets (LRP’s) and remove carefully to avoid damage.

  • Dispose all metal banding in to designated dumpsters from ground level.

  • Loosen chains and nylon straps and remove from LRP’s and store supplies properly.

  • Remove any bulkheads and prepare for eastbound return.

  • Put all chains and binders in to the assigned LRPC (coil LRP).

  • Sweep out empty containers.

  • Notify supervisor of any incidents, accidents, damages, claims, mechanical or material issues immediately.

  • Keep warehouse floors and facility yard clean and safe at all times.

  • Wear all proper safety attire (steel –toed boots, gloves, long sleeved shirts and full length cotton pants, safety glasses and any other safety attire that is assigned by the floor supervisor) and ensure proper personal protective equipment is in good repair and worn in accordance with OSHA regulations and company policy.

Job Specifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Familiarity or experience with logistics, metal, transportation, intermodal, and warehousing industries preferred

  • Knowledge and ability to work with hand tools, chains, metal binders, and power saw to cut wood

Work Environment:

This position operates in a warehouse environment with exposure to airborne particles such as dust, shavings, odor and fumes, and fluctuating noise levels. 
There is also frequent exposure to varying temperature and extreme weather conditions. This role routinely uses power saws, bolt cutters, chains and metal binders in addition to standard office equipment such as phones, computers, photocopiers, fax machines and file cabinets.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to effectively communicate with others via  phone.  The employee must frequently use hands and fingers to use phones, bolt cutters, chains, and metal binders.  The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk and lift for long periods of time throughout the day.   This position requires the ability to push, pull, lift and carry up to 50lbs.  In the course of duties the employee may also need to position oneself to bend, crawl, crouch, kneel, climb and balance. Must have the ability of sight to inspect product.  Must perceive the nature of sound at normal speaking levels, with correction, receive detailed information through oral communication, hear movement and be aware of moving equipment in surroundings.  Must grasp, pick, pinch, balance and reach.
